Why cabro rather than a concrete slab for our parking?

Because you will need to get underneath it. Kileleshwa plots are dense with buried services, and a cabro section lifts and relays invisibly to reach a pipe or cable. Breaking a concrete slab and patching it is permanent and visible.

Our soakaway floods. Is it too small?

Possibly, but near the Kirichwa it is more often the water table. A soakaway only works if the surrounding ground can accept water, and when the table is high in the long rains it cannot. That needs a different outfall or permeable construction rather than a bigger hole.

Plots here have been built on twice. Water mains, power runs, old drainage and abandoned septic tanks all sit under what is now the parking area, and none of it is on a drawing.

We survey for services before excavating. Finding a live water main with a machine bucket is an expensive afternoon and occasionally a dangerous one.

Soakaways near the Kirichwa

A soakaway works by letting water into the surrounding ground. Where the water table is already high (which near the Kirichwa it is, seasonally) the ground cannot accept it and the soakaway backs up.

Making the hole bigger does not fix that. It needs a different outfall, or permeable construction that stores water through the peak and releases it slowly.

Why cabro wins here

The density of buried services is the strongest practical argument for block paving over concrete on a Kileleshwa plot. A section lifts, the pipe is reached, and the same blocks go back with no visible repair.

A concrete slab has to be broken out and patched, and the patch never matches.
