No edge restraint. Where paving meets a lawn there is nothing holding the blocks in, so they migrate outward under turning vehicles and the joints open. Installing a haunched kerb along that edge stops it, and it has to happen before relaying, not after.

Can a committee phase the work across a budget year?

Yes, and it is often the sensible approach on an estate. We section the parking and do it in defined phases, prioritising the bays that are actually failing. It costs slightly more overall than one visit and it fits how estate budgets actually work.

Paving in South B and South C

These are 1970s estates with communal parking that has been patched, trenched and driven over for fifty years.

Edges with nothing to push against

The commonest fault here: paving that meets a lawn or a soft verge with no kerb. The blocks have nothing restraining them, so under turning vehicles they migrate outwards, joints open and jointing sand escapes.

Once that starts, interlock is lost across the whole field and it accelerates. Relaying without first installing haunched edging just restarts the same process.

Trenches

Decades of water, power and drainage runs cut across the parking, backfilled loose and driven over. Those lines settle into shallow dips that hold water.

Excavating the trench line, reinstating in compacted layers and relaying the same blocks fixes it permanently. Adding sand under the dip does not.

Phasing for a committee

Estate parking has to stay usable and estate budgets run annually. We section the work and phase it, prioritising bays that are genuinely failing rather than doing the whole forecourt at once.

It costs a little more in total and it fits how these decisions actually get funded.
